There are many training programs offered by GP training and you can choose one depending on what kind of vehicle you wish to drive professionally. For instance, if you wish to drive passenger carrying vehicles, PCV training is your calling. Similarly LGV (HGV) training is for driving large good vehicles or heavy good vehicle, B + E car and trailer training is for driving towing vehicles and as a whole for driving professionally, you would need to undergo driver CPC training.
There are categories of the training though, and depending on certain factors, you can choose among the categories. One factor is common for all categories and that is your age. You would only be able to choose a category for driving a vehicle, if you are of the permissible age. There is another factor too and that is the vehicle you drive should be legal as well as fit and safe to be driven on the roads.
The categories of passenger carrying vehicles that you can choose from are D1 + E minibus & trailer, D automatic bus, D manual coach, D + E coach & trailer and D1 minibus. The factors that would determine which category would be suitable for you are the kind of vehicle you would be driving i.e. if the vehicle is fully manual, you should opt for D automatic bus or D1 minibus and the number of passengers you would be carrying in your vehicle.
The LGV (HGV) training also has similar categories that include C1 + E - license, C1 + E – 7.5t & trailer, C – up to 32 tons, C1 – license and C + E truck & trailer. Based on the amount of weight you would be carrying in your vehicle, you can select one. For your information though, the C1 + E license is for driving articulated vehicles and the rest are for driving rigid vehicles.
The training for towing other vehicles has two categories as well, depending on the maximum authorized mass the vehicle you drive would be towing. The categories are B license and B + E license respectively.
You would need a CPC driver training if you want to drive your vehicle professionally. This is the latest requirement as per the legislation of 2009, which says that even if you have PCV license or B + E license or LGV (HGV) license, you would need to undergo CPC driver training. There are many driver CPC modules but initially you would only need to qualify for CPC theory test which consist of driver CPC modules 4 and 2. While module 2 deals with CPC case study that goes to show how much you understand a on road situation, module 4 is about practical test, requiring you to drive the vehicle of your choice.
Opting to learn driving at GP training would ensure that you pass your tests easily without any hassle. But even then if you cannot pass your driving test for the first time, there is a service we offer for you that would enable you to sit again for a retest of driving.
